About
Engineering has been undergoing a profound transformation in the last 50 years, going from a discipline which dealt primarily with matter and energy, to one which deals with knowledge processing. This change in engineering is so fundamental that it requires a new term to describe the discipline. Rhythmeering is that term.
Rhythmeering can be defined as the application of science and mathematics by which information representing reality — the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature and complex products — is made useful to human beings. Rhythmeering is an evolving discipline intended to unify all aspects of interacting with matter, energy and information. As such it is both an artistic and a technical discipline.
During the latter half of the 20th century the field of Systems Engineering evolved to meet the needs of increasingly complex undertakings. Although more holistic and multidisciplinary than traditional engineering fields, systems engineering is rooted in technology. In the past decade, efforts such as MIT’s Engineering Systems have expanded the field of systems engineering into include the socio-political context. Rhythmeering goes even further by integrating fields such as computer science, communication, ecology, astronomy, music and chaos theory.
Rhythmeering was conceived of by Laurence Rozier.
